City Social - The Highest Restaurant in Jason Atherton's Empire

Jason Atherton is pretty much everywhere right now. Opening up many restaurants in the past two years all over the world, not just London, with a few gaining Michelin Stars, he is the man of the moment. So his latest opening in Tower 42, one of the skyscrapers in East London was very anticipated.

You enter in a lift, but unfortunately unlike Duck and Waffle, there is no view.

The dining room is gorgeous. Huge lacquered woods, sexy reflective low ceilings, giant ghurkin-facing booths, and floor to ceiling glass offer the most incredible views.

The great thing about Jason Atherton's restaurants are the expert bars that come with them, this one retro in theme with incredible cocktails and views. A great place to go out.

Unfortunately, not all the food lived up to some of his other restaurants, but there was a good moment or two.

Starters were excellent. Tuna tataki with a cucumber salad, radish, avocado and ponzu dressing.

Pig's trotter with ham hock, black pudding, apple and madeira.

Main were disappointing, especially the cod, squid an red pepper stew with fennel.

Much better was the rack of lamb and an extremely tasty braised shoulder shephard's pie!

Dessert were mixed. The apple tart tatin (for two people, hence crappy cut in half photo - and yes we were greedy) was one of the best I've ever had.

The strawberry souffle, although looked absolute perfection, was not for me. No strawberry came through in the flavour, only a watery chocolate and it was a little on the large side.

We headed on to Nightjar for a couple more cocktails to finish off the evening and then away we went.

Unfotunately, I won't be heading back to the restaurant any time soon, however the bar is a great place to take friends and go for a few drinks. 2.5/5.
