Kurobuta, Chelsea

Can you believe it? Somewhere cool has opened in Chelsea.

Kurobuta, fronted by Scott Hallsworth, a chef who previously worked at Nobu, is doing something fresh and exciting with Japanese, fusion food.

A simple, small space with bare walls and open lights, we sat by the window to watch all the passers by.

The cocktails are delicious and the food even more so, with so many new and exciting flavours to try. We had to try as much as possible. In no particular order....

We were told by our waiter there was no point in coming to Kurobuta if you didn't get the flamed edamame with sake, lemon, butter and salt. I wouldn't say it was the best thing we ate, but it was very addictive!

We then had tea smoked lamb with smokey nasu and spicy korean miso.

BBQ pork belly in steamed buns with spicy peanut soy

The one dish that wasn't quite as up to scratch as the rest was the more traditional dish of spicy tuna maki rolls. Not very spicy, and overall not that much flavour. If you want sushi rolls, go to a dedicated sushi restaurant!

One of my favourites, Nasu Dengaku, which is sticky miso grilled aubergine (I'm addicted to aubergine) with sesame seeds. Just delicious!

Beef Tataki with onion ponzu and garlic crisps.

Wagyu beef sliders with crunchy onions, pickled cucumber and umami mayo. Delicious, but for £19 for two tiny sliders, with an already expensive menu, not one I will be ordering on another visit.

Yellowtail sashimi with kizami wasabi salsa and yuzu-soy.

A beautiful and delightful dish!! One of the best. Crispy skin duck confit, watermelon, daikon and spicy peanut soy.

One that I wasn't so keen on, but the boy loved, was miso grilled chicken with spicy, lemon, garlic sauce. For me, the sauce wasn't enough to drown out the fact that it was just chicken.

Absolutely beaming from a delicious meal, we left by rolling out the restaurant. Scribble something on their mirror before you leave!

In the mood for a few more drinks, we headed to Bluebird just down the road for a few more fancy cocktails.

Pleasantly surprised by tasty cocktails - though not too inventive - we ended up having more than planned.

It came with chocolate....I had to have it!

No Made in Chelsea stars spotted.

Kurobuta Rating: 4.5/5
